關於近代戲劇的著作，散見於歐美市場的，總在千種以上。現在暫且把容易買得到，而又簡潔合用者，略舉幾種在下面： 1． B.H.Clark: Continental Drama of To-day. 2． Ditto: European Theories of Drama. 3． E.Goldman: Social Significance of the Modern Drama. 4． A.Hehderson: European Dramatists. 5． B.Mathews: The Development of the Drama. 6． B.Shaw: Dramatic Opinions and Essays, 2 Vols. 7． J.Huneker: Iconoclasts. 8． H.Carter: Theatre of Max Beinhardt. 9． E.G.Craig: On the Art of the Theatre. 10． Ditto: Towards a New Theatre. 上舉參考書十種，大抵是簡要明晰，也容易買得到的，其他各種演劇史，劇論劇評，及舞台監督，舞台管理，扮裝之類，皆有專書，舉不勝舉，一概略去。此外尚有幾本日本書，和新近在美國出版的一種現代戲劇叢書，都很有價值，本篇的材料，以取自此數書者為多，特志之以表感謝的意思。 一，坪內雄藏著《劇與文學》 二，楠山正雄著《近代劇十二講》
